What is the PTO?
The Cogburn Woods Elementary Parent and Teacher Organization is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization made up of hard-working volunteer parents, teachers, and support staff. We pool our talents to provide practical support for our school and work to improve the educational experience for all students at CWES. Our goals are to encourage interaction between family and school, serve as a source of support, and work with school, administration, teachers, staff, and the community at large to improve our children’s educational experience.
The PTO plans and provides volunteers for educational programs and activities that are above and beyond what is provided by Fulton County Schools such as lunch bunch book clubs (4th and 5th grade), Camp Read S-more event (K, 1st, and 2nd), a 3rd grade reading adventure and Scholastic Book Fair.
Additionally, we like to show our appreciation to the teachers and staff at CWES. We provide monthly teacher appreciation events, provide volunteer support for the media center and art room, and coordinate parent room representatives for each classroom. We host the annual Teacher of the Year celebration and teacher and staff appreciation week as well.
We also go above and beyond to plan and host events, activities and programs that our students would not otherwise have available such as a father daughter dance, BINGO for Books, mother son dodgeball, school wide carnival, and 5th grade graduation week celebrations. In addition we create the CWES yearbook and offer school spirit wear.
In the past several years, the CWE PTO has also hosted large fundraising events to purchase a new electronic sign, interactive video equipment for the gymnasium, build the shade pavilion in the playground area, and remodel the media center.
- Being an active PTO member has many advantages:
- Supporting our community of students, teachers, and staff.
- Helping to improve school performance with educational support services.
- Be involved in the next fun event for our students.
- Opportunity to share your ideas to improve CWE PTO.
- Build rapport with teachers, staff and administration.
- Be informed on current and future school events.
- Studies show that kids with involved parents do better in school!
